M3gan review

M3gan+review

(WARNING SPOILER ALERT)

M3gan is a sci-fi horror movie released January 6, 2023. The movie follows a little girl named Cady who’s parents die due to a car accident in a snowstorm on their way to a ski trip.

Cady is then sent to her aunt Gemma who happens to be a roboticist and the creator of a popular toy, but when a rival company imitates the toy for a cheaper price, Gemma decides to work on a robot doll named M3gan (Model 3 Generative Android).

M3gan is then given to Cady to see how well the doll works and as the movie goes on it becomes apparent that M3gan was becoming Cady’s parental figure instead of Gemma because Gemma would always be busy with work and when she did try to play with Cady, Cady would be too busy playing with M3gan. M3gan then becomes self aware and begins to kill people (and a dog) that hurt Cady. But when M3gan starts trying to kill Gemma and Cady sees, Cady, using an older robot Gemma built destroys M3gan and then the movie ends.

Now, in my opinion the movie was very predictable it was also not very scary it highly relied on jump scares and it was really cheesy. It was funny sometimes but the whole thing just seemed really bland and like a rip off of Chucky except M3gan actually dies in the end. Although I think the concept of an AI becoming self aware and sentient is very interesting, I don’t think M3gan was a good representation of that. The public did rate it a 3.8 out of 5 stars with a whopping 94% on rotten tomatoes, but if I had to rate it I would give it a 1.5 out of 5 stars. it could just be me who thinks this, personally. I do not recommend the movie, but who knows, you might enjoy it. Here are some movies that carry a similar concept but in my opinion did it much better: Chappie, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Hardware, and Wall-E.
