What Makes a Good Teacher?

Good Teachers are those who are caring and are there for students to help them be successful in class. When teachers can be as accessible to their students as they can be to provide help for those that learn at different levels. The qualities of a great teacher is being a good role model to their students and having clear communication of class instruction with the students about what is expected of them to learn and get done. Giving students feedback is helpful so they can know what to do to improve and fix their quality work. Teachers can be a big part of a student’s high school experience. Pasco High students explain who their favorite teachers are and what they believe are their teachers best qualities as an instructor. What teachers or staff made a positive impact in your four years spent at Pasco High School?
A teacher I enjoyed having was Mrs. Cruzen. I have had her a couple of times throughout the years and I enjoyed being in her class because she is super nice and supportive of all her students. She has inspired me to get more into art and work on progressing my artwork. Her class is always a fun and creative environment. I recommend taking her art classes because they are really fun and students will enjoy making cool art pieces. Another teacher I liked having was Mr. Laur because he is a very cool and interesting teacher. He made history class more fun and interesting and I think he is a very understanding teacher that was there to help with anything a student may be struggling with in class.
PHS Senior Sarai Arroyo: “Some of my favorite teachers have been all the CTE teachers I’ve had because I’ve been able to discover things that I want to study in the future after high school.”
PHS Senior Marisol Salazar: “One of my favorite teachers in high school is Mr. Montez, even though this is my first year having him as a teacher he’s made a huge impact in my life. Through the years I have struggled with a lot of things, and he lets us know that we are not alone, he’s a very understandable teacher and a very patient one too. Always pushing us to do our best and doesn’t let us give up because he tends to see potential that we might not see in ourselves. Him and the whole class made this year better because that’s the only class where we all get to share our opinions and have a voice and all just vibe and learn new things from each other.”
Students tend to enjoy attending school more when they have classes, they look forward to going to and with a good class comes a good instructor. When teachers make the effort to remember their students’ names or simply telling them to have a nice day can make a student’s day better. Not all students enjoy coming to school because they may feel alone or anxious or like they do not belong therefore it is important that teachers include students in activities where they can meet new people and be more social. Even though socializing with people you don’t know can be awkward this helps practice better social skills which will help you in the future. Pasco High students tell me who their favorite high school teachers are and how they made their overall high school experience better.
Finally, I would like to thank my teachers and counselors that were there to be supportive and help me throughout the school years to make sure I was on track to graduate. Without the help of our staff, we wouldn’t be where we are today. I will now be graduating from Pasco High School. It was a long journey at times, but we got through this together and now we are saying goodbye to an amazing school full of amazing teachers. I wish all the teachers and people working at the school the best for the future.
