If you planning on joining law enforcement like the army or the police enforcement right after you graduate from Pasco High, here are some tips that can help you get set up for your future career.  For joining the military there are some requirements that you need to make sure of before joining the military of any branch such as the Coast Guard, Navy, Army, Marines, Air Force, or National Guard. Some of the requirements are that you must be 17 years old or upper to 35 years of age. You also need to be a high school graduate or equivalent. Need to be a U.S. citizen or have a valid green card.

The big step before joining the military is to pass the ASVAB which stands for Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery. It’s a test that is required to join any branch. The test is about helps predict future academic and occupational success in the military. Scoring above 50 is an average passing but if you score above 60 that means you are beyond above average. Make sure to talk with a recruiter to help you and see if you are eligible for being in the military. After that, you will be sent to a basic boot camp for 10 weeks which is 2 months in general. Yes, you will get paid while being in the boot camp, you get paid on the first of the month and the 15th. The amount you get paid is based on the job you enlisted and your rank. Those are some tips for joining the military.

Joining the police force is similar, but different at the same time. In order to become a police officer you need to get into the police academy. The police academy has some requirements you need to have before wanting to check-in.

Some of the requirements are that you need to be 18 years or older to be able to join the academy. You need to have a high school diploma or at least a GED. You must not have a criminal record. You also need to be a U.S. citizen to become a police officer. Possess a valid Washington driver’s license.

Some suggestions that could help you along the way to joining police enforcement would be to join some of the programs that they host. One of their programs is called the Citizen’s Academy, they teach you all sorts of stuff that they do and they show you some of the stuff that they learn on their way to becoming a police officer. They also show you some of their practice guns like how they reload or how they aim. The program in total is around 10 weeks and is hosted every Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Another program that you could join is the Explores program. They also teach you tips on ways of becoming a police officer. The police officers said that “almost everyone who joined the police explores program, ended up becoming a police officer.”
