As you may know, there are many different clubs at Pasco High School. But have you heard of the FCCLA? For those who don’t know, FCCLA stands for Family Community Leaders of America. FCCLA is held at Pasco High and is instructed by Mrs. Ledezma who is a teacher at PHS. The purpose of this club is for students to come together and improve their speaking, collaboration, and critical thinking skills.
Mrs. Ledezma decided to take on this vital role because she loves to see students grow and academically challenge themselves. Students are encouraged to do projects on topics of their choice, or what they strongly believe in and present them to a set of judges. Of course, you are not forced into doing a project, but it is highly suggested. FCCLA members travel and attend conferences with other high schools and compete with each other for the best scholarships.
FCCLA isn’t all about competing and traveling, there are many social aspects that are involved. There are certain officer positions you can be nominated for and responsible for doing. Obviously, there’s the president, vice president, secretary, membership, and fundraising. Each position has its own purpose, but I’d say one of the most important positions is membership. Because to be in FCCLA you have to interact and socialize with the other members. As a member, you are in charge of planning the social events.
There are many year-round socials that are fun to keep us in a close group. Another big part of FCCLA is our fundraisers. We do different kinds of fundraisers to help us raise money to be able to go to conferences. Last year we successfully completed our annual stickers, aguas frescas, popcorn, and senior signs. we raised enough money to where we went to State in Wenatchee and Nationals that were held in Denver Colorado.
Not only is FCCLA a great club to be involved in, but it also looks really great on a resume. If you are looking to join or just find out more about FCCLA feel free to contact Mrs. Ledezma or take a look at our Instagram.
