Why should you become a first responder? First responders are in short supply now a days. The lack of interest is driving some states to offer such things as better wages or even better coverage because being a first responder is no joke. They risk their lives every day to make sure our communities are safe and kept sound.
You need to have passion and drive for this job as well as the willingness to help others when they are in need. I met with a firefighter who has been working for the department for a bit. He brought up why he wanted to be a firefighter. He stated, “I mostly liked the idea of running into burning buildings. The lights, sirens, and the adrenaline surge that you get from every call. Knowing that not every call will be the same is nice.” First responders’ jobs are constantly changing, not every call is the same. From the long nights to early mornings, it is always worth knowing you can save someone.
Being an EMT is something else in the first responder world. The school may be long but in the end it’s worth going through and taking on the challenge of the day to day. Two schools in the tri-cities area offer emt classes. Columbia Safety LLC and Columbia Basin College aka CBC. These two schools offer reasonably priced EMT classes to students. As a student who went through the EMT training I can say it isn’t for the weak. However, the knowledge you receive in that short time is amazing.
First responders are the backbone of America, the foundation. They keep us safe no matter what time, day, or where the problem is. They risk their lives to better ours and protect us from the harm that was done. Firefighters and EMT’s work tirelessly to protect our lives and homes. Law enforcement risk their lives among the rest to protect the community and serve justice towards those who do or cause harm within. Would you consider becoming a first responder?
