On April 4th, “A Minecraft Movie” rolled into theaters with over 900,000 people watching opening weekend. A couple of friends and I happened to be among them. At Pasco’s Fairchild Cinema, “A Minecraft Movie” had multiple showings throughout the afternoon into the evening. I went to the 7:15 showing and it was a “full house.”
In “A Minecraft Movie,”(based on videogame Minecraft) a close-knit group of friends finds themselves immersed in the captivating, blocky world of Minecraft, where the beloved gameplay takes a thrilling turn when an ancient evil is brought from the Nether This dark force, a menacing being from the depths of the game, threatens to consume everything they hold dear. Determined to protect their pixelated paradise, the friends embark on an exhilarating quest that challenges their creativity and courage. As they journey through various vividly rendered biomes, from lush, sprawling forests filled with towering trees and hidden caves to perilous mountain ranges that scrape the sky, they gather resources and craft essential tools. Along the way, they encounter friendly creatures, including helpful villagers and mystical animals, while battling fearsome mobs like skeletons and creepers lurking in the shadows. With each obstacle they overcome, the friends strengthen their bond, learning the importance of teamwork and trust. Their ultimate showdown against the ancient piglin takes place at the Nether portal, where they must combine their unique skills and strategies to restore peace to their beloved Minecraft world, proving that friendship and creativity can conquer even the darkest of threats.
Throughout the movie, many cameos happened, for instance: Jens Bergensten (lead designer of Minecraft), Youtuber, DanTDM (Daniel Middleton), Youtuber, Aphmau (Jessica Bravura), Youtuber, Mumbo Jumbo (Oliver Brotherhood), Youtuber, LDShadowLady (Elizabeth Dwyer), and the movie paid respects to late Youtuber, Technoblade (Alexander).
Overall, “ A Minecraft Movie” is a really good movie if you come in with low expectations and you’re there with friends to have a good time. It has a run time of 101 minutes with two end-credit screens hinting at a sequel, bringing in “Alex,” also one of the original skins in Minecraft. Rating-wise, IMDb gives it a 6.1/10 and Rotten Tomatoes gives it 48%, at least one of those is a passing score at Pasco High. Overall, I enjoyed watching it with friends and family, saying ” I… AM STEVE” and “CHICKEN JOCKY” was fun because of how those memes came to be. The movie has lots of jokes, references, making it enjoyable and wholesome to watch.
