Mental Health is a crucial topic, especially in schools. It is a part of life, and it influences how we live. It affects how we think, feel, and act. Most people know and experience anxiety, but what is it? Well, what many people don’t realize is that anxiety goes further than what it is. It includes many disorders that are a part of Mental Health. Some of the most common types of disorders are panic disorder, social anxiety, and phobias.
Panic disorder is when people experience unexpected fear and many other symptoms like breathing difficulties, shaking/trembling, sweating, and chest pain. Social Anxiety is when people often feel like they are being watched and judged by others around them. They also tend to overthink past interactions or conversations. Avoiding social situations is a scary factor.
“Fear of embarrassment” is what people refer it as. Phobias are fears that go further than the word “fear.” Phobias are fears of certain things like objects, places, or activities that are uncontrollable, they often feel overwhelming, tiring, and sometimes annoying.
There are also some other disorders that people may not know about, but are common, and they are derealization and depersonalization. These disorders are often scary to experience and sometimes overwhelming. Derealization is when a person feels “fake” and detached from themselves, as if they are watching their life from an outside POV, and often feels like they are in a dream, and their conversations as well as interactions aren’t real. Depersonalization is when someone feels like their surroundings aren’t real; they may be doing activities, but they don’t feel engaged.
These disorders are hard to explain to others, especially when you aren’t the one who struggles with them. It may sound crazy, but this is the reality of many people, and that’s why it is important to get help.
Many celebrities deal with anxiety like for example, Taraji P. Henson opens up about how she was feeling and what she was going through, “I don’t want to go out in public, almost agoraphobic. Like too much to deal with, feeling awkward in my skin.”
“It doesn’t make you weak to ask for help,” says Billie Eilish, “It shouldn’t make you feel weak to ask anyone for help, and you should be able to ask anyone for help, everyone has to help someone if they need it.”
Ariana Grande also talks about Anxiety and how she feels about it, “You have your ups and downs, but the most important thing to remember is that you’re the least alone, everybody has this. Talk to your loved ones, reach out to people, especially your friends, online. It’s comforting to not be afraid and reach out and talk about it.”
By opening up to someone, or simply telling someone what you are going through, it helps your mental health a lot because, even as much as people don’t like it, they are expressing their feelings to others, and getting help is good for you physically and mentally.
If you want to get help but don’t know how to start or are scared to open up, here are some simple things you can do to help yourself. Getting a good amount of sleep is one of the best things for your health. Your brain is constantly running and processing things, and without sleep, it doesn’t get a break.
Having a healthy diet is also important because it reduces stress, prevents you from any further diseases, and puts you in a good mood. Healthy mindset, healthy body.
Getting regular exercise is good too, it doesn’t have to be an extreme workout or even going to the gym, it can be as simple as taking a walk outside, or swimming. Doing outdoor activities also helps you connect to nature.
Doing these things helps you out, and it allows you to live a better life and to not struggle alone because everyone has their own struggles.
