As June 13th, the last day of school at Pasco High (except for Seniors), approaches, people begin to experience various feelings regarding no longer attending school every day.
Many people idealize summer vacation from school, whether they are students or teachers. However, this year, much of the Pasco High School body is leaving PHS for either Chiawana or Sageview due to the new boundaries. This means that part of the PHS community is going where they will now experience something new.
Mrs. Alcala, an English teacher here at Pasco High, will be transferring to Sageview, and she shares her viewpoint.
“It’s bittersweet leaving Pasco High because this is my only home, and it’s been almost a generation of teaching, so it’s going to be scary, but I’m also excited,” Alcala said.
Depending on your role at Pasco High, your experience will differ in regards to your enjoyment of school. Academic performance throughout the year starts depleting around Spring. Students get demotivated and burned out, and they start to care less about their grades or attendance overall. They are ready for Summer vacation to arrive.
Chelsea Rangel, a junior, is a good depiction of how the workload of a young adult can be exhausting, proving students’ Spring sickness to be very valid.
“It’s been very stressful; I’ve lost more hair than I have in my life,” Chelsea said. “Researching colleges and applying for jobs, helping my parents, getting classwork done.”
And for some students, the grind does not end once school ends.
“Chambiar, my plan for the Summer is to work two jobs, get in four classes at CBC, and then just hang out with my friends,” Chelsea said.
However, during Summer vacation, students typically rest and have fun, like Natalia Santiago, a Junior at Pasco High.
“Well, I’m going on vacation, I’m planning on going to Cali and Hawaii, also I’m gonna be researching colleges/universities,” Natalia said.
Despite students holding responsibilities once the school year ends, there are still things to look forward to.
