Here are some of the scariest stories of all time. Some people have even claimed to see these happen, while others believe they are just myths. What do you think?
La llorona (Sobbing/Wheeping woman)
The story of La Llorona is well-known to many people. Parents often tell this story to their kids as a way to scare them. A spirit/ghost-like woman who is distraught by her own doing of murdering her children, people know this story, but in different versions. The most famous one is that the woman found out about a man’s infidelity (her husband cheating on her) and out of anger and rage, she drowned her two children in a river. She was cursed and was never able to be free in the afterlife, and became a spirit who wanders around crying and looking for her kids. She’s often described as wearing a long white dress and long black hair covering most of her face. She is similar to “The Grudge,” a movie released in 2004. “Mis Hijos! (“My Children!”) Donde estan mis hijos? (Where are my children?)-Llorona.
La Pasqualita
The legend is about Pasqualita, who died on her wedding day after getting “bitten by a black widow spider.” After her passing, she was embalmed (her corpse was preserved) by her mother, who at the time was the owner of a bridal shop in Chihuahua, Mexico. She then placed her daughter in the shop’s front window for her to be admired. After a while, people in that community claimed to see Pasqualita moving and changing poses at night. They would say, “her eyes would follow you as you walk by.” People then noticed how realistic the “mannequin” looked and how she had veins in her hands and eyes. The shop’s new owners told people that she was “not embalmed and is just a normal mannequin,” although many people don’t believe that. To this day, Pasqualita remains in the same spot in the bridal shop, is known for her story, and is visited by many people.
Duendes (trolls)
There is a legend that there are “Duendes” (trolls) that roam around homes and streets of Mexico (not a specific place or area). They are said to be “bad” and would talk to children to lure them, and most of the time, kill them. Many people would say that children are the ones who can see them the most, and parents would tell them not to speak or look at them, or else they would be taken away. They are described as short with pointed ears and are swift runners. If children misbehaved, their parents would often say “Los duendes te van a llevar” (“The trolls are going to take you”).
Bloody Mary
Bloody Mary, a story about how a woman appears to people who summon her, you would have to stand infront of a mirror in a dark room with all the lights off and a candle lit, then say her name three times, “Bloody Mary”, Many people often do this to see if the story is real, she is said to harm the ones who summon her, or scare them. That is the legend many people know, but this story has more versions. For example, Queen Mary I of England, who was known for burning people alive who had different religious beliefs in 1553, was given the nickname “Bloody Mary.” She then died due to a disease (most likely Influenza) in 1558 at age 42.
