What made you want to become a teacher?
When I was in high school, I didn’t have a good track record with my attendance or grades, and most people would either ignore me when I was present or label me as a dropout, but I had a few teachers who took the time and invested in me. I had an English teacher who took his lunch to write me a letter of recommendation, and he insisted that I apply for this scholarship. He could’ve written me off as a lost cause, but he invested in me and pushed me to think about college, and because of that, I ended up getting a full-ride scholarship, which changed everything for me.
How long have you been a teacher?
I believe this is my 9th year.
How was your personality growing up?
I was a tough little girl growing up. I thought that I could beat up anybody, and I often would walk behind my mom and stare people down because I didn’t want anything to happen to her. I was pretty much a tomboy until middle school. In my teens, I would sneak into websites and read poetry. My joy was in narrative writing on some bulky computers.
Do you have any pets?
Yes, I have two furry animals: two furry dogs, Mocha and Doechii, and a cat, Noelle.
What are your hobbies?
I do enjoy thrifting and some art.
What’s your musical taste?
I’m pretty old school, I like old R&B, and some of the current artists I like are Adele and Amy Winehouse.
How would you like to celebrate your birthday?
I enjoy spending time with my family and doing something together.
What’s your favorite food?
Chinese food.
