Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly becoming a significant part of our society, and as we begin to understand its true potential, we can push the boundaries of human achievement. However, what happens to real human creativity in this process? Will we still be able to infuse passion into our projects, or will AI take that opportunity away? With the increasing prevalence of AI, many people, including myself, are concerned about the future of genuine artists and the potential dominance of AI-generated art.
Artists and art enthusiasts fear that the swift rise of AI and AI-generated images might strip art of its authentic human element—the meaning, the message, and the passion behind each project could all be diminished to mere outputs from a simple prompt to an AI chatbot. A notable example is “Angel Engine” by Unearthly.ai, a popular analog horror series that explores various religious themes. It has garnered over 77,300,000 views in a short period, establishing itself as a significant player in the analog horror genre. Despite this recognition, the series has sparked concerns due to its heavy reliance on AI.
Many feel that the art, story, characters, and essential elements of a good narrative appear fabricated and lacking depth. As someone who seeks emotionally resonant and interesting themes, I question the future of storytelling in general. If we cannot invest genuine effort and passion into our projects, then what is the point of even trying?
You might look at a piece and think it’s hand-drawn, but it could just be a soulless imitation generated by AI. From an artist’s perspective, knowing that I could pour my life and time into creating art only for it to be replicated in under 30 seconds by an AI based on a simple prompt would be deeply disheartening. It could leave me feeling unmotivated to create at all, knowing that my work can be so easily duplicated by a machine.
This article may seem somewhat contradictory given that I have previously argued for embracing AI in our classrooms. I believe we should use AI in ways that elevate humanity and improve our world, rather than replace the qualities that make us uniquely human. Emotion, expression, and the passion to create are what define our humanity, and these can easily be overshadowed by the outputs of a non-human entity.
