Most people have a clear idea of what they want to do after high school, or at least think they do. In this article, I interviewed five PHS students about their dream jobs and what they need to achieve to pursue them. From underwater welding to becoming a pediatric doctor, everyone has their own field they want to explore.
What is your dream job?
**Gregorio Garza:** “My dream job is to either be a mechanic or an underwater welder. I want to be a mechanic because I really love cars and enjoy helping my dad work on them. I’m interested in underwater welding as well because it offers good pay.”
**Melissa Medina:** “I would love to have my own baking business, specializing in macaroons and chocolate-covered strawberries. I find baking to be fun, and I would enjoy making sweets for people.”
**Jose Alvarado:** “My dream job is to become a police officer so I can eventually work my way up to being a homicide detective. I think it’s interesting because I’ve always enjoyed watching true crime documentaries.”
**Briseis Correa:** “I want to be a veterinarian because I have always loved animals since I was little. Plus, it pays well, so I would be making good money.”
**Leila Buenrostro:** “I aspire to be a pediatric doctor because I love working with little kids. After my cousin passed away at the age of 12, I realized I wanted to help and care for children in the future.”
What do you need to achieve your dream job?
**Gregorio Garza:** “To become a mechanic, I need to graduate from high school and then go through training to obtain certifications. To be an underwater welder, all I need is a high school diploma and training.”
**Melissa Medina:** “I plan to go to college for business to open my own bakery.”
**Jose Alvarado:** “I need to get my high school diploma. While I could go to college, I prefer attending a trade school to graduate and pursue my goal of becoming a police officer, eventually working my way up to a homicide detective.”
**Briseis Correa:** “I need to graduate, earn my diploma, and then go to college to get my associate’s and bachelor’s degrees before applying to veterinary school. After that, I will need to pass the licensing exam and complete my training to become a veterinarian.”
**Leila Buenrostro:** “I need to earn my high school diploma and then attend college for an associate’s and a bachelor’s degree in health science. I believe I can achieve my dreams with determination and the support of my friends and family.”
