Are you considering joining a club but unsure which one to choose? Let me introduce you to Pasco High School’s Key Club. And no, they don’t make keys!
Key Club is a student-led organization focused on community service and leadership. It helps students develop character and discover themselves while giving back to the community. I interviewed some members and one of the club advisors to provide you with more information.
When I asked if they recommend Key Club to everyone, Mrs. Perez, one of the club advisors, replied, “I believe everybody should join our club, not only because it looks good on college applications but also for the chance to meet new people.” She added, “A bonus is that we go on many trips, which means you do get to miss class—only if you are passing, of course!”
As a member of the club, one of my favorite projects is Project Santa, where we ask local businesses to fund our initiative. Once we raise enough money, some club members and the advisors go to Griggs to buy toys for children in the special needs classes at elementary schools around Pasco. We individually wrap each present and even have our members dress as elves, Mrs. Claus, and Santa. We go around singing carols and spreading Christmas spirit through the halls.
I also had the chance to interview Brianna Quintero, Key Club’s president. She said, “I’m not sure how to put it into words, but you should definitely join! It’s easy, and you don’t have to do everything if you sign up to volunteer for an event.” She explained, “The events are fun, and you get to skip school while helping your community. We also help set things up for the school. Whenever the school needs assistance, we volunteer to help out.”
So, if you want to support our community, make new friends, or if your parents keep encouraging you to join a club instead of lounging around all day, consider joining Key Club. It not only has a positive vibe but also promises great parties and fun experiences. Remember, it’s more than just a club; it’s a community of students who care.
The next time you see the announcement for Key Club sign-ups, don’t be shy—attend the meeting. Even if it’s just once, you might just find that you enjoy it!
