Minga App
At the beginning of the 2023-24 school year, Pasco High School staff announced that we will still be using the ‘Minga’ app to enter the building. That is still being used for the current 2025-26 school year. The reasoning was to keep the school always secured, proving that you go to Pasco High, showing photo ID, lunch period, making sure you don’t be late to classes so you don’t end up getting off campus lunch, showing students daily schedules, and every student must sign up for Flextime on that app every Monday. The announcement of the Minga app had mixed feelings from all students in grades 9-12.
Oscar from 11th grade said, “It’s stupid, I just don’t like it, what happened to hard ID copies?” Which I agree on because staff tend to forget that not every student has a phone to have access to Minga, every morning they must go to the staff to put in their student ID numbers on one single computer, which causes it to be cramped and slow at the student door entrance every single morning. Hard copy ID would be much quicker and more efficient for students with or without phones because no one has to stop to type in student numbers, especially with the slow school internet that takes longer to load your ID screen.
Also, Minga has this thing where kids can earn ‘Minga Points’ from teachers, and with those points you can go buy things like snacks, drinks, and off-campus paper passes during lunch at the store upstairs, but major of the teachers don’t give out Minga points anymore to students.
Another student, Celeste from the 11th grade, who’s in cross-country and track, said, “Minga started my freshman year, I don’t like the option of off-campus lunch.” She said, “I also dislike the issues that come with having to sign up for enhancement on the Minga app, it will take forever, or classes are already full.” while a lot of students have negative feelings towards Minga, it is a way to be responsible like making sure you do not get off campus lunch and it did make the school secure by keeping Pasco High students in one building all hours with locked doors with a camera which you would have to show your photo id to the camera if your about 15 minutes late in the morning or after lunch has ended but I agree that hard copy ID is more convenient, because we are old enough to be responsible not losing them.
