If you ask a group of people what they think about pickles, it’s always a split answer, they either love them or hate them. I was trying to get answers on what do students think about pickles in general and this is how it went.
I always say pickles are so tasty because they are sour, tangy, and just overall go with every meal like sandwiches, burgers, alone, etc. Pickles are also very beneficial for you because they have vitamin K which is essential for blood clotting and bone health. Also, by some Pasco High members you will hear said that pickle juice helps for when they have a cramp after or during sports since the pickle juice contains vinegar which can stimulate nerve receptors and relaxes our reflexes. Still, other students say that they look nasty, taste too strong and overall too acidic and pickily.
I gave pickles too some of the students at PHS and asked them question and they gave me the response I needed to know
The first person that was up to willingly try a pickle was a sophomore, Guadalupe, she never had a plain pickle before so this was her first time trying it, she was at first hesitant but after some encouragement she gave it her first bite, “That’s disgusting” was the first thing that Guadalupe said when she took her first chew, she describe the pickle too be too strong of a flavor and just overall looked disgusting. Based on the experience she had with the pickle we can say that she dislikes pickles very much and hates them now.
Next up was someone who used to like pickles but not as much anymore, a junior, Genesis. When she tried the pickle, she described them to taste like a “green bean,” overall she said that they were okay but not her favorite, she described them to be “sour, kind sweet, not that bad overall.” I asked her what meal could she enjoy a pickle with, and she said a “burger”, not a bad choice. Overall, she didn’t hate them that much.
Next up, we have a sports player, Zlatan Moreno. When he tried the pickle, he ate the whole thing because he enjoys pickles. He describes them as “salty, sour, a little weird texture,” but overall, he enjoyed it. When I asked how he enjoys pickles, his answer was in a “ham sandwich,” which is a classic but also tasty pair for a pickle. Zlatan also said that pickles have changed his life because when he gets cramps after or during sports pickles/pickle juice helps relive the cramps in his legs and even some coaches have said that pickle juice can help with cramps. Overall, he loves pickles.
Another person, Jaya, was interested and wanted to describe her pickle-tasting experience. When she got the pickle, she already knew she was going to like them, so she ate the whole thing. She described them to be “very vinegary, salty, and juicy,” she enjoys them very much.
Lastly to try a pickle was one of Guadalupe’s friends. She is known to love pickles, so she was a perfect contender to taste the pickles. When she ate the pickle, she liked it and gave a thumbs up and said that “it’s very good” she said that it has a “good pickle taste.” She said that she enjoys eating pickles when they are cold. Overall, she loves pickles and likes snacking on them.
After those volunteers tasted the pickles I asked them if they think pickles are overrated or underrated, most of the people that didn’t like the pickles said that they were overrated but the ones that did enjoy the pickles said that they were underrated. A very split result of answers.
Overall, based on this taste test we can see that pickles are very controversial because everyone has different perspectives on pickles, they either hate pickles or love them.
