Tragedy of AstroWorld festival
Night one of musical artist Travis Scott’s Astro World festival turned into a deathly riot on November 5th 2021 located at the NRG park in Houston, Texas. Concert attendees were surging towards the front of the concert/audience causing the crowd to become tight.
Eight lives ages 14-27 tragically passed due to the events that took place at Astro World fest. As Travis was starting his set, immediately the crowd became overfilled and compressed when the people in the back decided to move forward. This impact caused little to no room for people to move, breathe, and caused difficulty to stand in one spot.
According to CNN.com, “right when he started performing his first song, I looked at my boyfriend and said we have to get out of here” He said “ I can’t— We can’t,” said an attendee.
Not only were there lives that passed, there were also many lives who were injured or in critical condition. Travis Scott’s two day event quickly was cancelled. As the situation filled the feeds of peoples Twitter’s, Instagram, and TikTok, Travis made a response to those who attended and to those who viewed it online. “I’m absolutely devastated by what took place last night, my prayers go out to the families and all those impacted by what happened at the AstroWorld festival” tweeted Travis. Loved ones of Travis also reached out, like his girlfriend/mother of his daughter who also made a statement.
“Travis and I are broken and devastated. My thoughts and prayers are with all who lost their lives, we’re injured or affected in anyway by yesterday’s events. And also for Travis who I know cares deeply for his fans and the Houston community. I want to make it clear we weren’t aware of any fatalities until the news came out after the show and in no world would have continued filming or performing. I am sending my deepest condolences to all the families during this difficult time and will be praying for the healing of everyone who was impacted,” said by Kylie Jenner on her Instagram story.
Travis Scott and Organizers are planning full refunds for the concert goers and rapper Roddy Rich also is offering to help the families of the lives who were lost with expenses. AstroWorld festival was created for Scott’s studio album that was released in 2018. It took inspiration by an older amusement park “AstroWorld” that was nostalgic for Travis. Due to Covid-19, the 2020 event was cancelled. This sparked excitement for the 2021 festival since fans have been waiting to go. Unfortunately, due to the crowd surges, moshing, crowd killing and lack of space decided that night two not go as planned.
