Everyone experiences moments of nervousness, overwhelm, or uncertainty. Sometimes, all it takes is a person—whether a friend or a stranger—to share a piece of advice that shifts our mindset and keeps us motivated. Have you ever felt down, only to have someone say something that completely transforms your day for the better?
Advice can often be shared casually, but its significance might not be recognized right away. For many students, these words resonate into adulthood, serving as motivation in difficult situations. Many Pasco High students were asked about the best advice they’ve received and how it has impacted their lives.
Savannah Barajas, a junior at Pasco High, shared two pieces of advice that have stayed with her: “Don’t put your sight on man but on God,” and “It’s not the situation we’re going through, but how we react to it.” The first piece of advice has helped her grow closer to God and to avoid focusing on what others say or how they judge her. Instead, it encourages her to redirect her focus toward God, which has been extremely helpful. The second piece has guided her to consider her responses to different situations thoughtfully rather than reacting impulsively to emotions.
Another student, Anthony Patricio, emphasized the importance of a simple yet powerful piece of advice: “Follow your dreams.” This encouragement has motivated him to pursue opportunities he never thought possible. Such advice can inspire students to take risks, try new things, and believe in themselves, ultimately pushing them to step out of their comfort zones.
Khloe Mora, also a junior, shared that the advice, “Always keep trying and never give up,” has been particularly encouraging for her. This message resonates with many students, reinforcing the notion that persistence is essential, especially during tough times.
Despite the varied nature of the advice these students shared, a common theme emerged: perseverance. Whether it’s through faith, dreams, or determination, the underlying message is to keep going. Thoughtful advice can significantly impact students, providing reassurance and support. It reminds them that they are not alone and that their peers share similar struggles. Sharing advice can foster a sense of community among students, helping them support one another.
Advice in high school is crucial because this period can be incredibly stressful, with the challenges of balancing friendships, work, and family, all while contemplating future career choices. The guidance students receive during these formative years can be profound. As they learn about themselves and acquire new knowledge each day, meaningful advice can build their self-esteem and confidence. Having someone to encourage them can instill a sense of support and understanding. Sometimes, hearing the right words is all it takes to uplift your spirits and make overwhelming challenges seem manageable.
While some pieces of advice may seem small, they can have a significant impact. Encouraging words can make a considerable difference during difficult times, reminding students to keep moving forward and believe in themselves. The influence of this advice can persist beyond high school, encouraging students to embrace new experiences and not to give up in their pursuits. Small words can ignite a lasting confidence in students, shaping their futures positively.
