Nowadays, almost every shopping center has Apple Pay/Tap. But the most common shopping center doesn’t have it. That store is Walmart. Why doesn’t Walmart have Apple Pay? Because they want us to use their own ‘Walmart Pay’ system with the Walmart app.
Forgot your phone at home and can’t access the Walmart app? Not carrying your card and only have tap? Need to pay something with half cash and half card, but you don’t have the card with you? Have a shopping cart full of groceries but forget to bring cash or card so now you don’t know what to do because you wasted at least an hour shopping just to not be able to purchase anything? Every day, there is always at least one person that has experienced one of those situations.
Mario Roche, a junior at Kamiakin High School, speaks about how he uses the Walmart app 9 times out of 10.
“The Walmart app is a decent app for me to look for what I need and to see if they have the item I want in stock,” he said. “But if Walmart had Apple Pay or Tap, it would be way more convenient and efficient.”
Mario also speaks about how Apple Pay isn’t a necessary need, but how it’s still efficient to use.
“Having Apple Pay and tap is good for certain situations,” he said. “For example, what if I leave my wallet at home, or if I need to pay for something but I forgot my cash and my card isn’t working? I just use my Apple Pay.”

Jose Carr, age 17 and a junior at Pasco High School, speaks on how Walmart not having Apple Pay/Tap affects his life when he goes shopping.
“I don’t use card, I normally use my Apple Pay, so having to get and carry cash is making me take extra steps when I have to get my necessities,” he said. “I would rather use Apple Pay, it’s more accessible and less complicated than the Walmart app.”
Jose also speaks about how the Walmart App is usually lags or bugs out when having pay for items at times.
“Apple Pay has one singular payment system that’s used in almost every store, I understand it can be slow, but it doesn’t bug or lag like the Walmart app does,” he said. “I end up having to put everything I grabbed back because the app just won’t work and I only have Apple Pay.”
