What is Mariahi Reyes de Pasco?
Mariachi Reyes de Pasco is Pasco High’s very own Mariachi group. Whether you know about it or not, this group has always existed! Mariachi Reyes de Pasco originally started in 2009 by Matthew Polk, but unfortunately disbanded for unforeseen reasons until it was reopened in the 2017-2018 school year. Room 198A is where all the magic happens every day after school (except Thursdays) from roughly 2:50 PM to 4:03 PM is where we spend our time practicing and perfecting our sound.
What does Mariachi Reyes de Pasco do?
As a mariachi group, we perform at various events or concerts in the Tri-Cities and surrounding areas! Our most recent event was a Mariachi Tocada held at WSU Pullman. We get to perform in new schools and in front of different audiences all the time. Some events we’re proud to have been and are a part of were the downtown Pasco Cinco de Mayo parade, Halloween events in different schools, our very own PHS Posada, Día de Niños parades around the city, and more. As a group, we strive for greatness and great sound with a friendly and motivating environment that is always welcoming newbies! Also worth noting, our group came in FIRST PLACE in the SOLO ENSAMBLE this year!!!!!!! Mariachi Reyes de Pasco would also place 2ND ALTERNATE!! with Dulce Velasquez singing La Malaguena!!! During our busiest times of year, being Fall, a little bit of the winter, and mostly spring, going into summer, we get to play for many events like at the HAPO center or for conferences at the Red Lion.

Vihuela and Current senior Angel Cordoba had this to say: “I started playing in the mariachi because it was something new, and seeing them perform for the first time was Intriguing. “If you have a passion for BOTH singing and playing, WE WANT YOU!! With most of our vocalists being Class of 2025 seniors, we are looking for more epic vocalists and instrumentalists to help us rock the Tri-Cities with our sound!! With fun field trips, new experiences, and pushing yourself way out of your comfort zone, it’s an amazing club, you may find yourself doing things you would’ve never imagined doing, like a guitar solo for El Cascabel or singing your heart out in front of hundreds of people at Cinco de Mayo! A new life of fun experiences and people awaits with Mariachi Reyes de Pasco.
How can you join?
As stated before, our magic happens every day after school from 2:37 to 4:02 (except Thursdays) in room 198A. Currently we only have Guitars, Vihuela, guitarron, trumpet, and violin. If you don’t play any instruments and have the opportunity, enroll yourself in “Intro to Mariachi” so you can learn the basics of mariachi guitar rhythm and skill to get yourself a head start on joining. Back in September, we tried adding clarinet, but schedules collided, so it didn’t stick. If you play any instrument, feel free to ask Mr. Chavez about joining or for any further questions. You can also meet with Chavez and talk to him during the Guitar/Mariachi EI sessions.
