We are now in the second trimester, almost mid-term, which means we are closer to graduation than we are to the first day. As graduation approaches, some seniors may be excited and happy, while others may be anxious, nervous, or scared. As each day passes, seniors are encouraged to continue doing well in their classes and to do everything they can to finish this last year stronger than any other. Though some seniors might feel confident and prepared for what’s next, some might feel anxious or uncertain about the transition from high school to college, the workforce, or other paths. It’s a time of significant change and reflection, filled with both hope and understanding. There is now a mix of emotions that a senior might be feeling, or even all seniors. The reality of graduation being around the corner when at the beginning of the school year it didn’t seem like it would be this close this soon, now it’s closer, and some may feel a blend of excitement, anxiety, and nostalgia. The promise of newfound freedom and the chance to pursue passions beyond high school is exciting to think about. Yet, even after all these “promises,” a current of uncertainty remains. The fear of the unknown creeps in as seniors grapple with the weight of impending decisions, “Will they succeed in college? Will they find their place in the world?
“I’m nervous for what comes after graduation, like yeah, I’m ready to leave school, but I know that becoming an adult and graduating comes with big responsibilities. Now more than ever is when I need to start focusing and paying attention more,” said Senior Gracia Barajas.
As seniors get closer to graduation, the way they think and the way they do things start to change as they realize there’s no more time to play and that they need to focus and get things done. From applying for scholarships to applying to college or university, each senior begins making these big decisions. Decisions that will change their future, whether it is for good or for bad. Each senior is now choosing the path they want to take, and they’re choosing it very carefully.
When asked what your plans and goals are after graduation? Senior Sarai Velasco answered, ” I want to become an RN I want to go to WSU to get certified. I think that Pasco really helped me prepare for this. As well as going to Tri-Tech, even though I just did it my senior year, I think that it helped me a lot with my decision.”
“We both encourage underclassmen to do their work on time and turn in things on time. It may seem like four years is a very long time until graduation, but as a current senior, I can tell you that the last 4 years of school will fly by faster than you can imagine. We encourage you to get involved in school, whether that’s in clubs, music programs, or sports. Getting involved might be one of the best decisions you can make. Study each day, whether you have a test or not, so that when the day comes of that test, you’re prepared.”
As the senior year for the class of 2026 comes to an end, we want to tell you seniors that you will be missed and that you have had a huge impact on all the grade levels below you. The way you guys carry yourselves and treat all the underclassmen motivates people to keep trying and doing what they’re doing.
