As the second trimester begins, the agriculture classes begin to prepare for the plant sale they hold every year. They’ve been consistent when it comes to this specific plant sales. From preparing the soil to planting and, soon, selling. Each plant science class begins to help prepare for this plant sale. Not caring how dirty their hands or clothes might get, they help their teacher carefully prepare for this. Each class is at a different pace, but all share the same goal, which is that each planted plant becomes one of the best. Or one better than the one before; each plant is being planted with care. As ag classes are buzzing with activity, students and teachers gear up for this annual plant sale. Seedlings are carefully monitored in the greenhouse, receiving just the right amount of water and light to ensure healthy growth. Students are also beginning to prepare informative signs with care instructions for each plant, so customers know exactly how to keep their new greenery. Excitement is building as the date approaches, promising a vibrant display of student-grown plants ready to brighten up local gardens.
When asked how much time it usually takes to prepare for the sale, Ag teacher AJ Lambert responds, “That is a hard question to answer. Every year, depending on how much the plant needs, we typically spend at least 10-12 class hours in the second trimester and potentially 30 class hours between two classes in the third trimester.”
Each class filled with excitement to see how this year sell is gonna go continue to help each other to get this plant sale to get as close as possible to perfection. Each plant is being cared for as carefully as possible. Having each different instruction to grow so it can be prepared for the sale. People may think preparing is the easiest process, but if they try to help during this time, they will see how much time, focus, and patience it takes to get these plants ready for everyone who will buy. Each class has been working together so that the plants come out healthy and beautiful for everyone and anyone that comes, not only to view but maybe even buy the plant or plants that they may like.
Junior plant science student Adilene Lopez says, “I haven’t taken this class before, but I really enjoy it and being a part of this process for the sale. I feel a bit nervous about preparing for this sale, but with the help of my classmates, I’m sure it’ll be fun. I’m also very excited to watch the plants grow. I’m sure they’ll come out nice and healthy.”
From my own experience watching this process unfold with both Ms. Lambert and my classmates, it has been amazing and fun to see everyone working together to plant the seeds at their own stations. Helping one another so that this plant sale is as successful as it’s been in the past is such a fun experience. Seeing everyone enjoy the process makes everything so much easier and more fun for everyone. We, as a class, hope everyone who buys a plant enjoys watching their plant grow as much as we are enjoying getting them ready for everyone. And hope that they like the plant and how it’s been taken care of. I would definitely suggest taking this class; not only do you get to know other people, but you also gain experience with planting and caring for plants.
