The Class of 2027 has been through a lot. To be honest, there have been many changes in school, such as finishing 5th grade in a Zoom meeting because of COVID-19. We started middle school with screens and super glitchy Wi-Fi, while our teachers did their best to teach us online.
When we returned to in-person classes, we realized we were no longer in elementary school; everything felt different. The hallways felt bigger and newer to me, as I began 6th grade at the new Stevens Middle School. Despite all these changes, we kept pushing through. Those years went by so quickly, and now that the Class of 2027 has this year and next year left, I wonder if they know their plans for the future?
At Pasco High, we have many opportunities. Fortunately, we offer Running Start, which allows high school students to earn college credits, as well as programs like Tri-Tech and various college classes. Now that I’ve mentioned what we have, let’s interview some juniors!
“When I graduate, I want to go to college for business and pursue a career in photography marketing,” says Liliana Capristo. She seems to have a clear vision for her future and is enthusiastic about incorporating photography into her life.
“I plan on running in college while studying education to become a teacher and coach track and field!” Celeste Rodríguez expresses her dedication to what brings her joy—track and field. She demonstrates her commitment by consistently beating her personal record at nearly every track meet.
After interviewing these two juniors, it’s clear they are passionate about their future careers. However, I wonder: are all these juniors planning to go to college after graduation?
“Not me. My current goal is to pass my ASVAB so I can join the U.S. Army,” one junior responded. “I’m planning this because I’m not really sure what I want to do in life, and the Army will give me time and many more opportunities.”
In summary, it’s evident that everyone has different plans for their future. While many will continue straight to college, others are interested in exploring military service. Each junior has something in mind, whether they have a specific plan or are still figuring it out. What matters is that we pursue what we truly want in life—not just what others expect from us. We still have our senior year ahead, and we intend to make every moment count because this is just the beginning of a very big journey!
