A lot of seniors at Pasco High are stressed for many reasons, such as being so close to graduating. Others are worried about what college they’re going to get into, and a lot don’t know what they’re going to do after high school, and that can be stressful. Many students are trying to balance school work, jobs, sports, family responsibilities, and planning for their future all at the same time.
For some students, the pressure comes from trying to keep their grades up while also applying to colleges and scholarships. Others are stressed because they feel like they need to have their whole future planned out before graduation. Even though senior year is supposed to be exciting, many students say it can also feel very stressful.
A student from Pasco High School, Daniel Rodriguez, shared his thoughts.
“I’m still trying to figure out if I want to continue working with the band that I’m in right now or go to college for business,” he said.
Like Daniel Rodriguez, there are many seniors that are trying to figure out what they want to do after high school. Some students already know what career they want, while others are still exploring their options. This uncertainty can make students feel nervous about making the wrong decision.
“I want to make the right choice for my future, but it’s stressful because I’m not completely sure yet,” Rodriguez continued.
This shows how stressful these decisions can be and how students feel pressure because these choices can affect their future. A lot of seniors feel like they only have one chance to make the right choice, which can create even more stress and anxiety during their final year.
“I want to move to Los Angeles after high school, but my parents want me to go to CBC for nursing,” added another student from Pasco High, Annette Campos.
Many students also have this problem when their parents are pressuring them to do something they’ve been wanting them to do, but the student wants to do something entirely different. This can make students feel stuck between making their parents proud and following what they truly want for themselves.
“It’s hard because I want to move,” continued Campos. “But I also don’t want to disappoint my parents.”
Even though senior year can be stressful, many students are still excited to graduate and start a new chapter in their lives. Whether they decide to go to college, get a job, or take another path, seniors at Pasco High are working hard to prepare for their future while dealing with the pressure that comes with their final year of high school.
