The Gravel Pit
The gravel pit is an annual game that happens at the end of every football season. And the two biggest rivals around face off against each other. Pasco High and Chiawana high. The gravel pit is one of the biggest events every school year, and gets both schools hyped up for the big game. Recently, the school hasn’t had the best school spirit during games. But this game should be different, we need all the students we can get.
“I love going to the school games, and participating in all the fun dress up themes. I wish there was more energy from the kids though, because whenever I’m at a game there’s many kids that stand at the bottom of the stands, but I wish more kids would come down and participate. It would make the games so much more fun.” Says Jordyn Merril, a sophomore.
This year our gravel pit theme will be spooky blackout. It would be so cool if all the students could dress up for this one final game of the season, its worth it. Our school is seated on the visitors side, with our opponent playing home. Which is an even better reason to go and be pumped up, so we can show more spirit than Chiawana.
“I’m a little disappointed that we’re on the visitors side. It means that we can’t go to the concession stands and get food and drinks unfortunately. Plus being on the visitors side just sucks. It’s never fun and the seats aren’t very comfortable. But I still hope that even though we’re on the visitors side we can have at least a little fun.” Says Bennet McDonald, a senior.
Even if our school has the “no fun spot” of the game we shouldn’t let that change our school pride. We can still have fun dressing up in costumes, and spooky black outfits, while watching and cheering on our amazing football team.
