Matthew Perry was found dead in the hot tub at his L.A. home due to an apparent drowning. The cause of this drowning is currently unknown, however many believe it could have been due to a heart attack.

His death has left people shocked and heartbroken, and many of his friends, family, and costars have released statements.

NBC said, “We are incredibly saddened by the too-soon passing of Matthew Perry. He brought so much joy to millions of people around the world with his pitch perfect comedic timing and wry wit. His legacy will live on through countless generations.”

Matthew Perry was known to have struggled with addiction for a long time of his life. Even when he was on ‘Friends’, his substance abuse was already an issue. He struggled with alcoholism, and also went to rehab for his addiction to pain killers.

Towards the end of his life, he was incredibly dedicated to staying sober and helping others become sober. Just the day before he died, he was photographed out to lunch with friend Athenna Crosby. She has spoken out about how the lunch went, saying that he was “in extremely good spirits,” and “happy and vibrant.” She also stated that he seemed extremely determined in his sobriety, that he refused to even look at a drink menu.

In an interview from November of 2022, Perry stated “I’d like to be remembered as somebody who lived well, loved well, was a seeker, and his paramount thing is that he wants to help people. That’s what I want.”
