Personally, the spooky fall season is one of my favorites. The weather is nice and cool, cozy outfits make their way back into the wardrobe, fall drink menus are being released, and activities like visiting pumpkin patches, carving pumpkins, home decorating, and choosing fun Halloween costumes are in full swing.
But didn’t all of this happen just a week ago? It all goes by so quickly. Christmas trees are already being put up, and Thanksgiving hasn’t even happened yet—what’s the rush? The orange leaves are still falling.
I’ve noticed that as time passes, people are in a hurry to transition through the holiday seasons. This shift is fueled by consumerism, marketing strategies, social media influences, and even peer pressure. Promotions and “cute, trendy” decorations appear on shelves surprisingly early. Stores start stocking up as early as late summer, building excitement for the upcoming holidays and making customers feel impatient. By the time Halloween rolls around on October 31st, many stores have already switched to that “Christmas spirit.”
Popular culture and social media play a significant role in shaping our society’s attitudes. Celebrities showcase products like cosmetics, fashionable clothing, gadgets, and decorations. Restaurants and cafes, such as Crumbl Cookie, Starbucks, Dutch Bros, and IHOP, quickly launch seasonal menus too. This creates a desire to be trendy and can foster FOMO (fear of missing out).
People feel compelled to start their Christmas celebrations early, embracing trends like winter outfits, gingerbread house decorating, and other seasonal social media trends. From wild Halloween costumes to puffer jackets, from haunted houses to Christmas light shows, and from spooky towns to Whoville, the transition is swift.
Not only are we rushing through the spooky season, but what about Thanksgiving? It’s like a “pre-game” for Christmas—how can we think past it?
While I love all the holidays—Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Christmas Eve, and New Year’s Eve—it’s a little disheartening how quickly the span of three months passes. Yet, the cold, ugly weather lasts much longer!
Despite this frustration, I absolutely adore the winter holidays, and I’ll gladly head to the Starbucks drive-thru to order from the winter menu! Sipping on my hot coffee while decorating our Christmas tree brings me joy.
With that said, I hope you all enjoy the holidays, stay safe, and remember to take down your Christmas tree after the season. Have a happy Thanksgiving!
