Ever looked at guys in the hallway? Like, REALLY look at guys? You would notice that almost ALL of them wear basically the same thing? You have seen how lacking in personality some of these boys’ outfits are. It’s okay to dress how you want; that’s better than being basic and looking like a copy-and-paste.
Grey sweatpants, white Nike socks, hoodies (bonus points if they’re grey or black), and maybe a pair of beat-up sneakers, specifically Air Forces. We’ve all seen at least 20 guys wearing this outfit as if it were an unspoken uniform.
So, waking up at 6:30 am to pick out an outfit isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. I get it. A lot of you boys just throw on whatever, something quick and easy that’s comfy and clean. But is it illegal to stand out a bit? Throw some color in there or patterns, stripes, maybe even florals.
Nowadays, nobody wants to stand out. No one wants to risk looking “weird,” but in all honesty, guys who dress differently and actually express themselves through their outfits are a lot more approachable than your basic outfits.
Social media doesn’t help either, since now everything’s an “aesthetic.” Everyone wants to look cool, too, and copy what they see online. Streetwear, “gym bro” clothes, and your “tech fleece” outfits all kind of blur together so that in the hallway, you just see a sea of clones.
There’s also a large group of guys who go thrifting. And these guys know how to get creative with their style. They don’t rely on name brands or the newest drops; they hunt for pieces that stand out to them. Whether it’s vintage T-shirts, baggy jeans, or cool jackets that no one else in the school has. Instead of buying what everyone else wears, they search for something unique that speaks to their personal style.
No, if you do dress in this “basic” style, I’m not knocking you, but just try to be a little more original with your outfits. Wear jewelry like necklaces and rings, or maybe different colors, or graphic T-shirts.
Someone who has been known for being original in their outfits is Josh Alviter. Josh always has a different fit on, and he’s easy to spot because he doesn’t look like everyone else. He’s not afraid to be expressive through his fashion and jewelry.
Another great example of a student who expresses themselves through their outfits is Nesta Ota. Now you’ve probably seen Nesta and not realized it was him, but his outfits are so recognizable, you know it’s him. Nesta likes his jeans baggy, extremely baggy, and his shirts too, but somehow, he can pull them off and make them look good.
According to Cassandra Salazar, there are some guys who dress nice, “Vaquero” style, boots, jeans, and a nice shirt. I get what she’s getting at. You can tell some guys put thought and care into their outfits, and that’s good for them.
I won’t lie, some guys know how to throw an outfit together, and a lot of them have good shoe game. Some boys throw on extra accessories like hats, chains, and sometimes even jerseys can make an outfit look personalized.
To all the boys of Pasco High, don’t be scared to be yourself and express yourself through your clothes. It’s okay to add some color or something to your outfit that really makes your outfit YOU. Even adding a signature piece to your wardrobe would be a great improvement.
