This spring season, the Pasco High School soccer team managed a three way tie for first place in the Mid-Columbia Confrence after beating Richland Bombers 1-0 on Friday May 1st.
The team finished with an amazing record of 8-1, only managing to lose one game to their rivals Chiawana. Things were not looking promising for the Bulldogs in the beginning of pre-season after losing 5 out of 7 games, only managing to win 2.
They managed to find themselves and prove teams wrong after gaining 5 consecutive wins in the season. The Bulldogs then hosted their rivals Chiawana at the Edgar Brown Stadium and managed a devastating loss 3-0. They saw past it and went on to win 3 consecutive games to finish the season strong.
Captains Miguel Leon, Jesus Gutierrez, and Joel Diaz were asked to state their honest opinions about the season overall.
Miguel Leon shared his confidence on the team.
“I think our season was good with a good team. I would take this team over any other team,” he said.
Jesus Gutierrez expressed how it is not how one starts, but how one finishes.
“This season showed the tenacity and grit of the Pasco Bulldogs,” he sad. “For the first time ever our boys started the season with a 2-5 record. Even so, they did not give into the pressure and frustration, instead they came back and shared the MCC title.”
Joel Diaz commented on how teamwork and perseverance got the team through the season.
“This season, the whole team overcame hardships from being 2-5 to winning the MCC and having a chance of going to state. The overall season has been a rollercoaster, overcoming a lot of challenges. Safe to say I am very proud of this team,” he shared.
Although the start of the season was rough, most players will agree that the errors from the pre-season shaped the team into winning the Mid Columbia Conference title. The team thanks the seniors and the underclassmen will continue to put in work for the following season.
