Pasco’s Baseball program looks to be on the rise as they’re able to go on the road and take down Walla Walla. This victory came on April 1st against the Blue Devils with a final score of 8-4. The Bulldogs were able to pick things up late in this game, scoring their first run in the fourth inning, followed by five runs in the fifth inning and tallying two more runs in the sixth. This all came to take down their third opponent of the season, after beating the Grandview Greyhounds and the Sunnyside Grizzlies, both out-of-conference teams.
Senior Dakota Gillum had three base hits and no strikeouts, securing a double and three RBIs. Juniors Max Garcia, Caleb Szendre, and Seth Lane were all able to land RBIs, along with freshmen Kutter Davenport and RJ Lopez also recorded a hit, helping put the game away for the Bulldogs. Adding on to Seth Lane’s two RBIs, he also pitched 6 innings, nearing the triple digits with 82 pitches, and Max Garcia was able to close it out with the final 14 pitches of the ball game.
In terms of baserunning, four players managed to each record a steal, those being RJ Lopez, Kutter Davenport, Kory Foster, and Gavin Frank, running for an injured Dakota Gillum. With only one error throughout seven innings, the team finished with a 0.967 fielding percentage, as the outfield went a perfect 3/3, with an athletic diving grab by Jon Wokojance coming late in the final inning.
As for the Blue Devils, they also struggled early, failing to score until the sixth inning, where they scored their only runs of the game. They managed to have 12 hits, as the Bulldogs had eight; however, the key difference maker in this game was their ability to get runners home. The Blue Devils left eight runners on base and went home in a crushing defeat. As they move to 3-4 on the season, Walla Walla holds the tiebreaker over the Bulldogs if necessary by run differential, as they were able to beat this same Pasco team only a week earlier. Pasco’s going to try to carry over this momentum as the win takes them to 3-5 on the season, after breaking a total losing streak dating back multiple seasons, as it took over 40 games to win a game in conference and out-of-conference play.
