Head Coach Romaine Smith oversees these fundraisers, and I had the opportunity to ask him a few questions to better understand their purpose.
When I asked, “Why do you fundraise for Men’s Basketball?” he explained, “We fundraise to keep player expenses at a minimum. This allows us to attend summer camps, tournaments, and purchase new player gear.” This approach supports players who may struggle to afford basketball-related expenses, ensures that the gear is up-to-date and reliable, and provides the team opportunities to compete against tougher opponents to enhance their skills and competitiveness.
Next, I inquired, “How do you set up and operate these fundraisers?” He replied, “We primarily fundraise by selling products such as donuts and chocolates, and by asking local businesses to donate to Pasco Men’s Basketball.” Selling products not only offers donors something in return but also helps broaden the fundraising audience, ultimately increasing the funds raised.
Finally, I asked, “How can readers donate to these fundraisers?” Coach Smith responded, “You can donate to Pasco Men’s Basketball through ASB.” If you wish to support the basketball team through donations, visit the ASB office to inquire about any ongoing fundraisers. However, donating isn’t the only way to show support—attending the games or watching them via livestream is equally valuable.
Support from fans and students helps boost the team’s confidence and strengthens the program. Without this support, the atmosphere in the gym during games would not be as vibrant.
