When was the last time you played Fortnite? Maybe it was a year or two ago, or even longer. Well, there’s a new season collaboration that you might want to check out!
Today, I’ll be reviewing Fortnite’s new season, which features a collaboration with The Simpsons and its iconic city, Springfield.
As I began playing the season, the first things I looked at were the new Battle Pass and the Item Shop. The Battle Pass wasn’t bad; it was pretty standard, featuring skins of several Simpsons characters. One highlight was the introduction of a “sidekick,” which is a sort of animal or creature you can equip in the game that follows you around like a real-life pet. The Item Shop, on the other hand, had numerous tabs filled with a wide variety of skins, emotes, and some very expensive shoes for your character.
After debating whether to purchase the Battle Pass, I finally jumped into my first game of the new season. While waiting for the game to start, I noticed how the graphics looked more cartoonish and colorful, deviating from the high-end, realistic look Fortnite typically aims for. The transition from the waiting island to the Battle Bus was unique and cool, going through the letter “O” before entering the map.
This season features a whole new map, including locations such as Evergreen Terrace, Springfield Town Square, the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant, and other areas like Donut District, Kamp Krusty, Cletus’ Corn Hole, Springfield Slurpworks, and Burns Manor.
During my first game, the gameplay felt smooth, although it might have been because I hadn’t played in a while. The vibrant colors made the houses, roads, grass, trees, and bushes resemble those from The Simpsons. One notable detail was a Springfield billboard similar to the Hollywood sign. They even included exact replicas of the show’s houses.
As for the weapons, they were somewhat limited. It felt like I only encountered four main weapons in the game. While there were certainly more, the ones I frequently found on the floor and in chests were the Striker AR, Silenced Scar (mostly available in Green and Gray rarity), and fan-favorite weapons like the Hammer Pump and Tactical Shotgun. I also noticed it was challenging to find med kits and bandages; I came across more shields instead.
A cool addition was the mystery chests randomly placed inside houses. These chests could contain weapons of a higher rarity than blue (like Purple and Legendary), which are the best in the game. They could also yield shockwaves, med kits, shields, and grenades.
One significant change in Fortnite this season is the player count, which has decreased from the traditional 100 players per match to 80. While this ensures shorter, faster matches, it also makes the games feel too quick and challenging, since only better players tend to remain. This can be unfair to those who want to have fun as well as to those who aspire to become pros.
After playing a few games, I surprisingly got a Victory Royale. The matches felt so fast that I lost count of how many players were left alive, so it was a pleasant surprise when I won. As always, Fortnite rewards a victory with an umbrella themed around the current season. This season’s theme is The Simpsons, and while the umbrella was alright, it wasn’t particularly shocking or unique compared to past seasons.
After experiencing this new Fortnite Simpsons season, my final review is that the game looks colorful and cartoonish, giving it a distinctly video game feel. The gameplay seems much more straightforward, with fewer overpowered or annoying items compared to previous seasons. The weapons feel balanced and basic. I recommend giving Fortnite a try, especially for those who are new or who haven’t played in a while. It’s entertaining and easy to pick up, but you only have until the end of November to enjoy the Simpsons season!
