Every time you walk into the PHS building, you see groups of people holding their Dutch Bros drinks—whether it’s coffee, smoothies, Rebels, or something else. You might wonder, “What’s the hype about Dutch Bros? Why do so many people buy it?”
I decided to find out for myself by tasting some of the popular drinks Dutch Bros offers to see if they’re worth the hype, the money, the taste, and to experience the atmosphere of the place.
**Coffees**
The first drink I purchased was an Iced Golden Eagle. If you love caramel or caramel apples, you will love this drink. It consists of caramel and vanilla with a soft top, perfectly capturing the cozy vibes of autumn. The first flavor you notice is cinnamon sugar, and overall it reminds me of a delicious cinnamon roll. I would give the Golden Eagle a 9/10 and don’t regret that purchase.
Next, I tried the Annihilator. If you enjoy Nutella, you will love this drink because it tastes similar thanks to its macadamia flavor and hints of chocolate. If you have this drink in the morning, it will make you feel cozy and ready to start the day on a high note. Overall, it was very tasty, so I rate it a 10/10.
Lastly, to finish off the coffee section, I tried the Cocomo. This drink consists of coconut and chocolate milk. While it tastes a bit like an Almond Joy (even though there are no almonds), it didn’t have much of a distinctive flavor—it just tasted like regular iced coffee. I’ll give it a 6/10.
**Smoothies**
Now, let’s move on to the smoothies. I tried the strawberry, green apple, and mango flavors.
The first one I tried was the green apple smoothie, and it tasted fantastic. It was reminiscent of a Green Apple Jolly Rancher—very sour with a strong apple flavor. The texture of the smoothies is smooth, almost like a slushy, which I personally love. I give it a 10/10.
Next was the strawberry smoothie, which tasted more like milk than strawberry. It had a flavor similar to strawberry milk but lacked any real strawberry taste. Overall, it was pretty flavorless, so I would rate it a 4/10.
Finally, I tried the mango smoothie. The mango flavor was very strong and delicious. If you enjoy strong mango-flavored candy or treats, you’ll love this smoothie. It reminded me of sunny summer days. I give it a 10/10 as well.
**Rebels**
Lastly, I tried the Rebels, which are energy drinks. Dutch Bros has many different flavored Rebels, so I wasn’t sure which to choose. Ultimately, I decided on two: a pomegranate Rebel and a seasonal Halloween flavor called the Trick or Treat Rebel.
First, I tried the pomegranate iced Rebel. It had a strong pomegranate flavor and was quite sour and refreshing. It was straightforward in taste, so I would give it an 8/10 because it was still very good.
Finally, I tried the Trick or Treat Rebel, which is supposed to taste like white chocolate, almonds, and gummy bears. It’s an unusual mix, but I decided to give it a shot. To my surprise, it didn’t taste like what was described; instead, it tasted like peaches and mango. Although this was a bit disappointing since I expected a different flavor, it was still really good and refreshing, so I would give it an 8/10.
**Atmosphere**
The staff at Dutch Bros are a huge plus—they are always sweet and kind. The workers strive to make your drink just how you like it, and they are very outgoing, which contributes to the positive vibe and energy at Dutch Bros.
Overall, I understand the hype surrounding Dutch Bros and would recommend it. It’s worth the money, the drinks are tasty and flavorful, and the atmosphere is positive, with polite and friendly workers.
