What do you teach at Pasco High?
“Currently I teach floral culture 1-4 then I teach landscape design.”
How long have you been teaching at Pasco high school?
“I was hired in 2021, so this is my fifth year.”
Did you work at a flower shop before working at Pasco High School?
“Yes, I worked at more than one in town and I work in my own floral business.”
If floral did not work out, what other subject or class would you teach?
“Lifetime fitness because the student’s health is a lot of how you live and longevity of life so I’m passionate about that. I also have interest in environmental science and other areas as well, like art, but I also have my elementary ed degree so I student taught in the third grade.”
Outside of school, what are your hobbies?
“To say floral culture would be funny, but I do enjoy making floral arrangements with no rules. For my baby shower we just made floral arrangements with no rules, so it was a flower making party. I also like CrossFit especially now that I have kids, so I do try to do CrossFit after school a couple days a week.”
Are you involved with any groups/clubs at Pasco high?
“FFA. It’s a national organization that used to stand for Future Farmers of America, but agriculture is so much more than farming. You have people that work for a large company here in the Pacific Northwest that actually monitors the water that goes onto most of our crops via computer. They have to have that ag knowledge on top of it. They have to go out to the spot that says dry and actually check if its dry.”
Were you always interested in flowers?
“Yes, when I was super little I used to make flower soup, which was where I would put a lot of flowers in a bucket and then my parents would say it really stinks after being left out for a couple days. Also I would leave the neighbors little flower gifts.”
What’s something that most people don’t know about you?
“My interest in CrossFit is new. I used to rollerblade a lot more. It’s hard to have hobbies after having kids, but keeping those things is good for mental health. I used to rollerblade a lot for fun for fitness.”
Could you see yourself opening your own flower shop?
“Yes, currently I have a business that’s been in business for 11 years and I specialize in events and weddings. When I got hired as a teacher I moved away from that because I realized the reach is further when your helping students, when you see that spark and excitement and that passion of ‘oh I can do this’. A lot of students also teach me, like showing me the trends that come and go, to help me learn about the new generations, so it’s fun.”
