What do you teach at Pasco High?
I teach English 10, English 101, English 102, and Latino Literature.
How long have you worked at Pasco High?
2 years right now, but at the end of this school year would make it 3.
What inspired you to be a teacher?
My grandparents and other family members were inspiring teachers. I also had some good high school experiences with my coaches. I never hated school, and as I got older and went to college, I realized I really enjoyed it and saw it as the one place where anyone could work on self-improvement. I wanted to be a part of that. I wanted to help people improve and level up their lives. School seems to be the best place for most people to do that.
Before you became a teacher, did you have a career you were interested in?
No, but I served in the US Army and had many other jobs.
How was high school like for you?
I had many friends, and I enjoyed sports. Academic work wasn’t my favorite, but I managed to survive.
How long have you been teaching in general?
I think this is my 23rd year
Before teaching at Pasco High, where else have you taught?
I taught in Tampa, Florida, and Cincinnati, Ohio, and a little bit in Cape Town, in South Africa
If you didn’t teach what you’re teaching now, what else would you teach, and why?
I’d teach Physical Education and Health (I’m certified to teach that, and I taught PE/Health while in Florida for five years)
What made you want to be a teacher?
I liked reading and wanted a job that let me read all day. But as I got closer to becoming a teacher, I realized I really liked teaching too. I liked the interaction with others and the benefit I was able to provide. Those are my main reasons, but there are many more.
