The good behind minga

The good things that Minga offers.
The good behind minga

We have all seen stories, articles, and even texts talking about Minga. But most of the texts we see are negative, such as how annoying it is, or how boring it is, or even how it ruins our school. But what about the good side of Minga, well here it is. I had asked sources what they thought about Minga, the real, good, truth. “I think the good point about it, is we are flowing with technology. We are upgrading, we’re increasing the visibility of students, the accountability of students, and it makes it easier for us as staff to see who’s coming in as opposed to having to search everybody up every time” says Mr. Brown, our very own security guard, who most of you probably know.

He covers the fact that we are “flowing with technology” as we are. The school has advanced to a new way to keep track of who enters and who leaves, the school has hundreds of students that need to be accounted for, and this is a way for them to make sure all of us arrive, and it also makes it to wear random people can’t just walk in at any time. A long time ago, people did not believe that technology would get this far but it has. The Minga app has a wide variety of things on it, the app allows us to make passes to the bathroom or water fountain, we can earn points for free items, can do self-check-ins ourselves, or check class leaderboards, we have groups such as PHS athletes, class of 2025/2024 and other years, we have a calendar that can have events put on it. And of course we have the main page that people such as Mr. Domingos and Mr. Gomez post events on that involve sports, clubs, academics, etc.

Another interview taken for Minga’s good quality was, “What I like the best about Minga is that we have gotten rid of paper passes to prevent students from selling them on the ‘Pasco Black Market’! I also like there is a defined preset time limit on passes for uniformity!” says person S. One thing about pre-Minga was our paper hall passes, a lot of students would save them and would write in them on pencil to erase, this is probably one of the reasons Minga came in to play. To keep us from doing things like we used to with paper passes.

“I would say one of the good things is you can receive participation points and stuff from the teachers to get free stuff”, Says student Mila Heron. She is correct; our teachers grant us points based off how we participate in class and work. When these points are earned, the school has a shop where you can redeem them. You can buy things like stickers, chips, shirts, etc. All these items are free, no money comes out of your pocket. All you must do is participate in class, do your homework, and be on time.

With the Minga app, our classes can keep track of points, so if you were to go on the Minga app you would see that the freshman (2027) class is at 1,421 points, they are in the lead. The sophomore (2026) class is in second place with 951 points. Then our junior (2025) class with 712 points, and lastly the senior (2024) class with 179 points. These points are not being kept in check to see what class receives the most, it just shows how well those years are working on getting points. Our freshmen class is doing their best and acquiring a lot of points just in this first trimester.

Yes, this app is annoying or boring to some or most, but it also has some amazing things about it that most of us can see, these are those things. So, what would you say you think about Minga?
