Eating disorders

Eating+disorders

An eating disorder is a very sensitive topic to speak about because it isn’t a topic that a lot of people talk about or care about it. A lot of teens, especially girls, do have eating disorders because us teenagers often compare ourselves to other girls. Girls will see a girl on social media with a good body and will do anything to get that same body. It can look like starving themselves or eating but then once they are done, going straight to the bathroom and making themselves throw up.  There are some times where they just don’t eat for days until they see a difference in their body. They might also weigh themselves before and after to see if there are any results. But once they starve themselves it can be hard to stop doing it and it can be dangerous. Like, when they try to get up too fast and start getting lightheaded.

A lot of teenagers have eating disorders and just because you can’t tell that they have one, it doesn’t mean that they don’t have one. A lot of people that have an eating disorder don’t look like they have one, but you shouldn’t assume that they don’t. If you are worried you might have one, there are places where you can go checked out, and if you do, there are also places where you can go talk about it and they can help you with it. You can go to the doctors to go take a test and you can go to an eating disorder therapist to go talk about it and they can help you with your eating disorder. An eating disorder can be reversible or, if you take the right treatment, it can be permanently gone.

Some teenagers will tell their parents that they think they have an eating disorder, and some parents think it’s ridiculous. They might think that there is no such thing as having an eating disorder and that can worsen their kids’ disorder. This happens because if they ignore it, it can actually get worse. And if they don’t get the right treatment for it, it might not ever go away. Not every parent is like that, but some don’t believe in eating disorders. Also, there are some parents who tend to judge their kids body by calling them “fat” or saying it looks like they have been gaining weight. Saying all that can hurt their kid and that can also lead to getting an eating disorder. If you ever feel like you have an eating disorder, I encourage you to go get checked out at your nearest clinic or hospital and if you don’t want to go there you can get the eating disorder hotline at 800-931-2237.
